Hurd sets Tennessee single-season rushing and scoring records

On November 30, Henderson (Tennessee) Beech High School junior running back Jalen Hurd set state records for 11-player football single-season rushing yardage and single-season points.

In Beech High School’s 56-35 win over Columbia (Tennessee) Central High School in the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association Class 5A state championship game, Hurd rushed 34 times for 394 yards and seven touchdowns.

For the season, Hurd ended up with 3,357 rushing yards, breaking the former state record of 3,068 yards set by Dy'Shawn Mobley of Powell (Tennessee) High School in 2011. According to the National Federation of State High School Associations’ online multimedia National High School Sports Record Book, Hurd’s performance ranks 25th all time nationally.

In addition, Hurd's 42-point effort against Columbia Central gave him 294 points for the season, breaking the former state record of 290 set by Kelcey Williams of Humboldt (Tennessee) High School in 1995.

Hurd's seven touchdowns also set a championship game record for rushing touchdowns. Beech finished its 2012 season with a 15-0 record.
