On October 5, Lexi Smith of Florence (New Jersey) High School tied the national field hockey scoring record with her 174th career goal in a 6-1 victory over Palmyra (New Jersey) High School.
According to the National Federation of State High School Associations’ online multimedia National High School Sports Record Book, Sharon Landau of Mamaroneck (New York) Rye Neck High School scored 174 goals from 1982 to 1985. Smith scored her second goal of the game with 19:25 remaining in the half to tie Landau’s mark.
With the win, Florence improved its record to 8-3 overall and to 6-1 in the Burlington County Scholastic League, while Palmyra fell to 2-10-1 overall and to 2-6 in league play.
