In Folsom (California) Vista del Lago High School’s 47-10 football victory over Placerville (California) El Dorado High School on November 4, Logan Smith tied the California state record for single-season receptions.
In that game, the 6-foot, 185-pound Vista del Lago senior wide receiver had 14 catches to give him 122 thus far this season. Smith is now tied with Richard Mullaney of Thousand Oaks (California) High School, who set the state record in 2010.
According to the National Federation of State High School Associations’ National High School Sports Record Book, Smith is also tied for sixth nationally. Mark McDonagh of Riverside-Brookville (Illinois) High School set the national record of 165 single-season receptions in 2009.
With the victory, Vista del Lago concluded its regular season with a 7-3 win-loss record as it now prepares for a first-round California Interscholastic Federation Sac-Joaquin Section Division III playoff game with Woodland (California) High School on November 11.
