Shell ties national rushing record

Shell_Rushel

Rushel Shell, a 6-foot, 217-pound senior running back at Aliquippa (Pennsylvania) Hopewell High School, tied the national 11-player football record on November 4 when he rushed for at least 100 yards for the 38th consecutive game.

According to the National Federation of State High School Associations’ National High School Sports Record Book, Shell is now tied with Billy Sims, who set the record while playing for Hooks (Texas) High School from 1972 to 1975.

In that first-round Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class AAA playoff game, Shell rushed 32 times for 268 yards and four touchdowns as Hopewell defeated Indiana (Pennsylvania) High School, 41-13. Shell has now rushed for 2,033 yards this season and for 8,798 yards thus far in his career, the latter of which ranks 15th nationally.
