Dorial Green-Beckham of Springfield (Missouri) Hillcrest High School demonstrated true “Show-Me State” spirit as he set the national record for 11-player football career receiving yards.
On October 27, the 6-foot-5, 220-pound senior had 11 catches for 303 yards in Hillcrest’s 35-7 victory over Republic (Missouri) High School to increase his career total to 6,209 yards. According to the National Federation of State High School Associations’ National High School Sports Record Book, Green-Beckham has supplanted Abram Booty of Shreveport (Louisiana) Evangel Christian Academy as the national record-holder in that category. Booty had 5,867 career receiving yards from 1993 to 1996.
Green-Beckham is coached by his foster parent, John Beckham, who adopted him in 2005. A versatile athlete who is regarded as one of the nation’s top high school football players, Green-Beckham helped lead Hillcrest to the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 5A state basketball title as a freshman.
With the victory, the Hornets improved to 9-1 and enter the MSHSAA playoffs this week. Interestingly, they have never advanced beyond the third round of the playoffs.
