On October 21, senior place-kicker Andy Pappanastos of Montgomery (Alabama) Trinity Presbyterian School became the Alabama High School Athletic Association football career field goal leader in the Wildcats’ 40-21 win over Montgomery (Alabama) Academy.
Pappanastos had field goals of 24, 37, 41 and 44 yards in that game to give him 14 for the season and 46 in his career. He entered the Academy game with 42 career field goals – one behind former state leader Philip Doyle of Birmingham (Alabama) Huffman High School, who played from 1983 to 1986.
According to the National Federation of State High School Associations’ National High School Sports Record Book, Pappanastos’ 46 field goals ranks tied for fourth all time. The national record is held by Jimmy Stevens of Oklahoma City (Oklahoma) Heritage Hall High School, who kicked 50 career field goals from 2003 to 2006.
