Big Bear and Desert Hot Springs set California state record

On October, 14, Big Bear City (California) Big Bear High School and Desert Hot Springs (California) High School set a state 11-player football record of eight overtime periods. The former state record of seven overtimes had stood since 1991.

The game, which lasted nearly four hours and was won by Big Bear, 56-50, was tied, 22-22, at the end of regulation play.

According to the National Federation of State High School Associations’ National High School Sports Record Book, the performance ranks tied for fourth nationally. The national record of 12 overtimes was set on October 29, 2010, when Jacksonville (Texas) High School defeated Nacogdoches (Texas) High School, 84-81.
