Lumas ranks third nationally

Lumas_Gabe

On September 30, Kingman (Arizona) High School cornerback Gabe Lumas was a defensive stalwart as he intercepted seven passes in the Bulldogs’ 48-21 win over Flagstaff (Arizona) High School.

By doing so, Lumas’ performance ranks tied for third all time in the National Federation of State High School Associations’ National High School Sports Record Book. The national record of nine interceptions was set by Ken Golins of Broome (South Carolina) High School in 1981, while Glenn Rogers of Sandpoint (Idaho) High School had eight interceptions in 1928.

There is no such listing for this particular category in the Arizona Interscholastic Association’s record book.

Lumas had four interceptions in the first half and three in the second half in the contest played in Walkup Skydome on the Northern Arizona University campus.
