After backing up now-graduated, record-setting Dano Graves last fall, Folsom (California) High School senior quarterback Tanner Trosin has made the most of assuming the mantel of signal-caller, as he threw for 601 yards September 16 in the Bulldogs’ 49-46 victory over Antioch (California) Deer Valley High School.
Trosin’s passing performance ranks 10th all-time nationally, according to the National Federation of State High School Association’s National High School Sports Record Book. It is also ranks third in the state of California.
The 6-foot-1, 175-pound Trosin completed 34 of 49 passes and tallied five touchdowns in the game, including the game-winning 40-yard scoring pass to J’Juan Muldrow with 1:35 left.
Graves was named MaxPreps’ National Player of the Year last fall when he threw for 3,702 yards, passed for 62 touchdowns and rushed for another 23. His 85 combined touchdowns set the state record as he helped lead Folsom to victory in the California Interscholastic Federation Division II State Bowl Game. Through the first four games of 2011, Trosin has emulated Graves’ offensive example, as he has thrown for 1,609 yards and 15 touchdowns.
