In South Bend (Indiana) Washington High School’s 46-23 victory over Bloomington (Indiana) North High School on August 19, Washington senior wide receiver Gehrig Dieter etched his name into both the Indiana and national record books.
In that game, the 6-foot-3, 190-pound Dieter had eight receptions to set the Indiana state record of 383 receiving yards. The former record of 362 yards was held by both Jason Yurack of Rushville (Indiana) High School and Burke Eiteljorg of Indianapolis (Indiana) Park Tudor High School.
Dieter’s performance also ranks eighth in the NFHS’ National High School Sports Record Book. J.D. Felice of Rose Bud (Arkansas) High School set the national record of 421 yards in a 2008 game with England (Arkansas) High School.
Dieter was highly efficient as he scored touchdowns on five of his eight receptions, which were scoring strikes of 88, 80, 64, 47 and 44 yards.
