Despite recovering from mononucleosis, New Iberia (Louisiana) Catholic High School senior Morgann LeLeux set the national high school girls pole vault record when she cleared 14-feet-2¾.
Coached by her father Shane LeLeux, the 18-year-old Morgann set the mark April 27 at the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) Class 3A regional meet in Lafayette, Louisiana.
In the process, she eclipsed the former mark of 14-1 set in 2007 by Tori Anthony of Palo Alto (California) Castilleja High School. She is one of only seven high school girls to clear the 14-foot mark.
A versatile athlete, just three days later LeLeux led the Panthers to their first LHSAA gymnastics state title with her winning score of 9.9 in the floor exercise. She will attend the University of Georgia next fall where she will compete for the Lady Bulldogs’ track team.
